Red Tango
High in the sky, then deep in the well
Falling my way from heaven to hell
To fight for what I want to make mine
With no guarantee, and no sense of time.
I’m shedding my skin along the descent -
I wonder if it will ever come to an end.
Will I shatter in star seeds and dust?
If so it may be, may it be and just trust.
I’m wearing my best shoes, they match the devil’s eyes.
One last act of courage -
Shivers going down my spine as I meet his luring smile.
Get ready, the beat is Argentine.
The stage is ready albeit poorly lit
The music commences at his fingers’ whip
“Surrender to the dance, it’s what you came for,” he says
As I allow my hand in a fearful embrace.
Perfectly orchestrated chaos
That’s the melody he chose
A syncopated symphony of cons and pros
It makes no sense at all, the rhythm is his own.
He leads me into the Ocho, infinite times
I’m thinking I must be losing my mind
I’m doing my best, but I swear, it’s a mess.
No longer dancing, we’re now playing chess.
Here it comes, the dreaded free spin
If I keep my balance, I have a chance to win.
Don’t forget your steps as you follow his grin.
Remember to dance, listen to the song within.
If this is my path to embark in this fall
Then I must go down with a smile, after all.
